Roberto Carlos Pineda Arriaza Obituary- Death, Albuquerque Shooting: In Loving Memory

The community of Albuquerque, New Mexico is mourning the tragic loss of 21-year-old Roberto Carlos Pineda Arriaza, who died after being critically injured in a shooting on April 18, 2026.

According to the Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office, Pineda Arriaza was an innocent bystander when he was struck by a gunshot during an exchange of gunfire between two vehicles in southwest Albuquerque. He suffered a severe head injury and remained in critical condition for several days before passing away on the evening of April 21, 2026.

Investigators confirmed that he was not involved in the incident and was caught in the violence as shots were fired between moving vehicles. His death has left family, friends, and the wider community devastated, as they remember a young life taken far too soon.

Through the course of the investigation, authorities identified Rory Horowitz as the primary suspect, along with Ellyssa Salazar. With assistance from the United States Marshals Service and the El Paso Police Department, both suspects were located and arrested at a residence in El Paso, Texas.

Horowitz initially faced charges including shooting at or from a motor vehicle causing great bodily harm, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, and aggravated battery. Following Pineda Arriaza’s death, investigators are now seeking to amend the charges to include an open count of murder.

Salazar has been charged with tampering with evidence and harboring a fugitive. Authorities say she was linked to a Mitsubishi vehicle believed to have been involved in the incident, which has not yet been recovered.

Officials also noted that another individual connected to a second vehicle was arrested separately by the Albuquerque Police Department on unrelated charges, including reckless driving and fleeing police. That individual has not been charged in connection with the shooting.

The investigation has involved coordinated efforts among multiple agencies, including homicide and violent crimes detectives, field deputies, and intelligence units. Authorities credit strong collaboration between local, state, and federal partners for the progress made so far.

The Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that the extradition process is underway to return the suspects to New Mexico. Investigators continue to search for the missing vehicle and are urging anyone with information to come forward.
