Damien Combs Obituary- Death, Hammond Louisiana, Shooting: In Loving Memory Of Beloved Resident
Damien Combs, 45, died following a violent incident that unfolded during a school morning drop-off and escalated into gunfire and a crash outside a campus.
The incident occurred on April 14 at approximately 7:39 a.m. outside the Tangipahoa Alternative Programs campus on Crystal Street. Authorities said Combs was in a vehicle with his 13-year-old son and a younger pre-kindergarten child when a dispute developed in the school car line.
Officials stated that the teenager did not want to exit the vehicle to attend school, and the situation escalated as tensions rose. A school resource officer approached the area as the confrontation continued. Before the situation could be resolved, Combs decided to leave the campus and drive away with his son.
Investigators say that during the drive, the situation turned deadly inside the vehicle when the 13-year-old allegedly fired a gun, striking his father. Combs then lost control of the vehicle, which crossed the roadway and crashed into a nearby home, causing property damage but no injuries to occupants inside. The younger child in the vehicle was not harmed and was later placed with a relative.
After the crash, the teen reportedly exited the vehicle with the weapon and moved toward the school before being stopped by a school resource officer, who disarmed and detained him without further incident.
Combs was transported to a hospital but later died from his injuries. Authorities say charges are expected to be upgraded as the investigation continues into the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
Officials continue to actively investigate the case to determine how the events unfolded inside the vehicle that morning.
