De’Travion Brown Obituary- Death, Hemingway SC, Shooting: Community Mourns Death Of Beloved Resident
The community of Hemingway, South Carolina continues to mourn the loss of 19-year-old De’Travion Brown, as authorities have announced an arrest in connection with the deadly shooting that claimed his life.
According to the Williamsburg County Sheriff’s Office, a 17-year-old juvenile has been taken into custody and charged with murder under South Carolina law, as well as possession of a weapon during a violent crime.
The incident dates back to March 9, 2024, when deputies responded to reports of gunfire at a residence on Poston Street in Hemingway. Upon arrival, officers discovered a vehicle parked in a driveway with an unresponsive male inside suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
Emergency responders from Williamsburg County EMS attempted life-saving measures, but Brown was pronounced dead at the scene by the coroner’s office.
Investigators allege that Brown had arrived at the location with an acquaintance and the juvenile suspect. While at the residence, the suspect reportedly expressed intent to harm Brown while armed with an AR-style firearm. Authorities state the suspect then approached the vehicle, where Brown was seated in the front passenger seat, and opened fire before fleeing with assistance from others.
Following an extensive investigation, the suspect was located and arrested on April 21, 2026, through a coordinated effort involving the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division, the Florence County Sheriff’s Office, and the Williamsburg County Sheriff’s Office. The juvenile has since been transferred to the custody of the South Carolina Department of Juvenile Justice.
