Frank Chappell Obituary- Death, Albany County, New Scotland Crash: Community Mourns Tragic Death

A tragic early morning crash in New Scotland claimed the life of 59-year-old Frank Chappell of Greenville after his vehicle left the roadway and struck several trees along Clarksville South Road.

The incident occurred just before sunrise on Monday, with deputies responding around 6:26 a.m. after reports of a crash near the intersection of Dunbar Hollow Road. When emergency crews arrived, they located a yellow 2015 Kia Soul that had veered off the road and come to rest in a heavily wooded area after a severe impact with trees.

Inside the vehicle were two occupants. Frank Chappell was driving, and a 21-year-old woman was in the passenger seat. Both were transported to Albany Medical Center for urgent medical care.

Despite lifesaving efforts, Chappell was later pronounced dead at the hospital due to the extent of his injuries. His passenger survived and is expected to recover from non-life-threatening injuries.

Investigators say early indications suggest the possibility that a medical episode may have occurred before the crash, potentially contributing to the vehicle leaving the roadway.

Authorities are continuing to examine the circumstances surrounding the incident, including how the vehicle came to strike multiple trees. An autopsy scheduled for Tuesday is expected to provide further clarity on whether a medical condition played a role in the fatal crash.
