Michael Wolcott Obituary- Death, Riverside, Motorcycle Accident: Community Mourns Tragic Death
A tragic crash along NW Mattox Road in Riverside has claimed the life of 35-year-old Michael Wolcott, leaving a community in shock and a family mourning a devastating loss.
According to the Riverside Police Department, officers responded around 9:00 a.m. Wednesday to reports of a serious collision just north of NW 43rd Street involving a motorcycle and a commercial truck. Due to the severity of the incident, the Platte County Sheriff’s Office assumed control of the investigation shortly afterward.
Investigators say Wolcott was riding a 2024 Kawasaki motorcycle southbound on NW Mattox Road when he attempted to pass a commercial truck traveling in the same direction. Authorities believe he was traveling at a high rate of speed at the time.
The truck, a 2022 International tractor driven by 33-year-old Robert McCormick of Lucas, Iowa, was reportedly making a left turn into a nearby business when the collision occurred. Wolcott’s motorcycle struck the front of the truck during the turn.
The impact caused Wolcott and his motorcycle to continue down the roadway before leaving the road and crashing into a utility pole. Emergency responders transported him to a nearby hospital, but despite lifesaving efforts, he later died from his injuries.
McCormick was not injured and was released at the scene.
Authorities have indicated that speed and an attempted passing maneuver may have been contributing factors in the crash. The investigation remains ongoing as officials work to reconstruct the sequence of events leading up to the fatal collision.
The loss of Michael Wolcott has left the Riverside community grieving, as loved ones come to terms with a life lost far too soon in a sudden and tragic accident.
