Authorities in Washington, D.C. have issued an Amber Alert for 2-year-old Royce Hawkins following a tragic incident that left his mother dead in Northwest Washington on April 21.

Shooting on Kenyon Street NW

According to the Metropolitan Police Department (Washington, D.C.), officers responded just before 11 p.m. to reports of a shooting in the 600 block of Kenyon Street NW. At the scene, they found an adult female suffering from gunshot wounds.

Despite emergency life-saving efforts, she was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators believe the shooting stemmed from an argument between the victim and a man in an alleyway, after which the suspect fled.

Urgent Search for Missing Child

During the investigation, police learned that the victim’s 2-year-old child, Royce Hawkins, was unaccounted for. He had last been seen around 7 p.m. in the 500 block of Kenyon Street NW with his mother before the fatal incident.

An Amber Alert was immediately issued due to concerns for the child’s safety.

Royce is described as a young Black male with a light complexion, brown eyes, and black hair. He was last seen wearing a long-sleeve yellow and blue striped shirt.

Person of Interest

Authorities are also searching for a man believed to be in his mid-20s, wearing all black clothing and a ski mask. He is considered a person of interest in the shooting and disappearance and has not yet been located.
