Shawn D. Simon Obituary- Death, Lawrence Township OH, Accident: Community Mourns Tragic Death

LAWRENCE TOWNSHIP, Ohio — A tragic head-on collision on State Route 93 in Stark County claimed the life of 41-year-old Shawn D. Simon of Massillon on Thursday, April 23, 2026.

According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, the crash occurred around 12:16 p.m. when Simon, driving a northbound 2005 GMC Sierra, crossed the center line for reasons still under investigation. His vehicle collided head-on with a southbound 2018 Chevrolet Silverado driven by 70-year-old Terry L. Evans, also of Massillon.

The impact was severe, forcing both vehicles off the roadway. Emergency crews from multiple agencies responded quickly and had to use hydraulic rescue tools to free Simon from his vehicle. Despite their efforts, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Evans survived the crash and was transported to a nearby hospital with injuries that were not considered life-threatening. A passenger in his vehicle was evaluated at the scene and was not injured.

Authorities temporarily shut down State Route 93 as first responders worked the scene and investigators began examining the circumstances leading up to the crash. Officials continue to review possible factors, including driver condition, mechanical issues, and road conditions.

The loss of Simon has left the Massillon community grieving, while the investigation remains ongoing to determine what caused the vehicle to cross into oncoming traffic.
